James B. Nebel graduated from the University of Wisconsin cum laude with a B.B.A. degree in 1971, and received his J.D. degree cum laudeem> in 1974, also from the University of Wisconsin. Following law school, Mr. Nebel served as a law clerk to the Honorable Bruce R. Thompson, U.S. District Judge, District of Nevada. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Central, and Eastern Districts of California, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is a trained mediator as well as early neutral evaluator and is a member of the Mediation and Early Neutral Evaluation Panels of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
Mr. Nebel was a founding partner of Flynn, Delich & Wise LLP in 1993, and now serves as of counsel to the firm. He began his career in practice as an associate in the international law firm of Graham & James, becoming a partner in 1984.

Carnival Cruise Lines, Inc., 499 U.S. 585 (1991)(amicus curiae brief); In re Chugach Forest Products, Inc., 23 F.3d 241 (9th Cir. 1994); Albingia Versicherungs, A.G. v. Schenker International, 350 F.3d 916 (9th Cir. 2003); Certain Underwriters at Lloyd’s v. Montford, 52 F.3d 219. (9th Cir. 1995); National Union Fire Insurance Co. v. Showa Shipping Co., Ltd., 47 F.3rd 316 (9th Cir. 1995); Crowley Maritime Corp. v. Boston Old Colony Ins. Co., 158 Cal.App.4th 1061 (2008); and Pacific Atlantic Trading Co., Inc., v. M/V MAIN EXPRESS, 758 F.2d 1325 (9th Cir. 1985).
Mr. Nebel has been selected for inclusion in the Maritime Law section of Best Lawyers in America, 2007 – present, and has been recognized as a Northern California “Super Lawyer,” Law & Politics and San Francisco Magazine, 2005 – present.
